Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Dogechain’s PawPort Bridge?
If you are deep into the crypto world, you’re likely familiar with Dogecoin. But what if you were told that there’s so much more to it than memes and the coin itself?
There is a blockchain meant for it, Dogechain; as well as the groundbreaking construction of the PawPort Bridge and a tunnel that links Dogecoin DRC-20 tokens (or Doginals) to the underworld of dApps and smart contracts.
Let’s dive into what this means for $DOGE hodlers and the larger Web3 space, shall we?
But first…
What is PawPort Bridge?
The PawPort Bridge is the first cross-chain bridge to connect Dogecoin’s blockchain with Dogechain, EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine)-compatible.
PawPort unlocks the full potential of Dogecoin’s Doginals (DRC20 tokens), allowing them to just smoothly sail the seas between the Dogecoin network and Dogechain.
There’s a tunnel under the surface that, through blockchain technology, shifts the power of smart contracts and decentralized finance (DeFi) to and fro Dogecoin versus other networks.
Before PawPort, Doginals were limited by Dogecoin’s proof-of-work (PoW) network. While this gave Doginals some security, they lacked the scalability and flexibility needed to interact with dApps, DeFi protocols, and NFT platforms.
With PawPort, all that changes.
What are Doginals?
Doginals (also called DRC20 tokens) are a feature on the Dogecoin blockchain that allow their users to inscribe data onto Dogecoin’s individual units (known as “shibes”), to manufacture both fungible and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Doginals are similar to — like some kind of replica of Ordinals on the Bitcoin network. They lack smart contract compatibility, which means they have many limitations:
- Zero smart contract capabilities: This prevents them from being integrated into DeFi platforms and dApps.
- Liquidity: Trading requires limited orders, making DRC20s difficult to trade flexibly.
- Scalability: High network traffic can raise their fees and slow down the network.
Despite these barriers, Doginals gained traction within the Dogecoin community, with a market cap reaching over $90 million.
There was a rising demand for greater workability, which is exactly what PawPort now offers.
Why Bridge DRC20 Assets to Dogechain?
Here’s where the magic happens: When you take Doginals over to Dogechain, you gain access to a tunnel of a much more underlying, broader range of services. These include:
- Smart Contracts: Doginals can interact with decentralized applications and DeFi protocols, via PawPort.
- Assured Liquidity: You can trade DRC20 tokens on DEXs throughout the Dogechain ecosystem.
- Scalability: When you offload transactions from Dogecoin’s PoW blockchain to the PoS-worked Dogechain, PawPort Bridge eases congestion and reduces gas fees.
Let me make it clear.
Dogecoin uses the Scrypt algorithm as part of its Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, but it is rigid in the aspect of options. This makes the transactions, although usually taking one minute, last longer than the norm.
Dogechain’s Proof-of-Stake (PoS) implementation is, according to the network, an alternative to their then-existing Proof-of-Authority Istanbul Byzantine Fault Tolerance (IBFT) applications, “giving node operators the ability to easily choose between the two when starting a chain.”
Dogechain runs on Polygon, Ethereum’s largest sidechain. This means that Dogechain supports apps and games developed for Ethereum, and it is connected to most of the networks there.
How Does the PawPort Bridge Work?
The PawPort Bridge works by taking $DOGE with inscribed Doginals and storing them in cold storage while minting their DOG20 counterparts on Dogechain.
The above process allows users to send DOG20 tokens to their EVM-compatible wallets. Whenever you decide to return to Dogecoin, the bridge burns the DOG20 tokens and sends the corresponding Doginals back to the original Dogecoin wallet.
Currently, the bridge supports fungible assets like:
- $DOGI
- $PEPE
- $FIWB
- $DCEX
- $MUSK
- $OINK
Oink.
The Dogechain team is also working on expanding support for non-fungible Doginals, so the growth of possibilities continues.
Criteria for Bridging DRC20 to Dogechain
To make use of the PawPort Bridge, you’ll need a few things:
✓ DRC20 assets on Dogecoin.
✓ A DRC20-compatible wallet (Doge Labs Wallet).
✓ An EVM-compatible wallet (like MetaMask).
✓ Both $DOGE and wrapped DOGE (wDOGE) on Dogechain for gas fees.
Once you’ve got those ready, and set, you can begin bridging your Doginals and tap into the advanced Dogechain ecosystem.
What’s in Store for PawPort and Doginals?
Dogechain is continuously trying to expand asset support for non-fungible tokens. With a decentralized exchange like QuickSwap, Dogechain lets users trade DRC20 and generate a yield from liquidity.
PawPort evolves and needs maintenance every step of the way, and it has become a core part of the Dogecoin ecosystem.
Don’t forget it.
